ESSENHEIM SPÄTBURGUNDER

2011 Kalkmergel Weingut Braunewell

Grapes Pinot Noir
Colour Red
Origin Germany, Rheinhessen
ABV 13.80%
Vineyard Kalkmergel

From barely registering with wine drinkers outside Germany, Spätburgunder (or Pinot Noir as it is better known) has suddenly become the must have filler for the discerning wine rack. This is an outstanding example; light and bright with loads of charm. Knocks the socks off most Burgundian Pinots as this price with its superior elegance and style. L&S (Mar 2015)

Crunchy sweet raspberry fruit on the nose. Very sweet start. Lots of fun and good balance. Impressive length and not heavy. Drinking range: 2014 - 2017 Rating: 16/20 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Aug 2015)

Weingut Braunewell

François Breiniville fled 17th Century France's Huguenot persecution to settle in Essenheim, just south west of Mainz.
It took until the 1960's for Adam Braunewell to start bottling the wines from his family's vineyards and, today, he helps his children and grandchildren run this excellent estate and tend their flagship vineyards of Blume and Teufelspfad (the Devil's path!)
