TEMPRANILLO

2011 Bodega Dehesa de Luna

Grapes Tempranillo
Colour Red
Origin Spain, Tierra de Castilla
ABV 14.5%

A pretty cherry red with a purplish rim. The elegant nose is characterized by its red fruit (raspberry and bilberry) intermingled with sweet milk and pastry aromas. A smooth entry, swelling up to mid palate, where we find a full-bodied wine. A full and balanced palate. Moderate tannin levels give it depth. It ends with a few notes of toffee born of its good aging in oak barrels. (Winemakers notes) L&S (Jun 2014)

Bodega Dehesa de Luna

This 3,000 hectare (7,410 acre) estate forms a mosaic that combines vast areas of Mediterranean forest, acres of reforested land as well as meadows that have been ploughed and planted with vines, olive groves, almond trees and cereals. The continental climate in these lands causes great swings of temperature between winter and summer and also between daytime and night-time. Rainfall is mostly in cold periods and during autumn and winter. Summers are intensely hot and dry. At an altitude of 850m, temperature differences between daytime and night-time from August till October are marked and help make the summer heat more pleasant than in other areas in south-east Spain. These geographical and climatic characteristics of the Dehesa de Luna estate have a positive influence on the ripening process of the grapes, increasing anthocyanin concentration and prolonging the ripening period, which enhances the aromatic complexity of the grapes. At Bodega Dehesa de Luna, the wine-making process is performed with meticulous care. All the batches of grapes are thoroughly analysed for ripeness which, together with regular tasting of berry samples, allows us to determine with precision the optimum time for picking. Each grape variety is vinified following its own specific protocol, according to grape characteristics and the wine-making objectives. We also carry out a painstaking analytical control during the whole of the wine-making process, from the alcoholic fermentation to the storage in bottles after the wine has aged in barrel.
