Ruby, rose, clear colour. Fresh grapes, red fruit, marble and stone on the nose. Paprika, some cinnamon and fresh cherry on the palate. Light tannins develop structure and complexity. Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. Better in 2016. Rating: 95 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Sept 2014)

Kirsch, rose petal, pomegranate, exotic spices and mint are woven together in a fabric of notable class in the 2011 Tignanello. An exotic wine that captures the essence of the year, the 2011 is endowed with magnificent complexity, nuance and class. The silky, polished finish makes the 2011 incredibly appealing today, but the wines from this site have always aged very well. The 2011 is going to need time to shed some of its baby fat, but it will always remain extroverted and racy to the core. I can't wait to see how the 2011 ages. Drinking range: 2019 - 2031 Rating: 95 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Sept 2014)

(80% sangiovese, 15% cabernet sauvignon and 5% cabernet franc): Medium red. Slightly reduced aromas of candied raspberry, ripe dark cherry, coffee and underbrush, accented by peppery herbs and spices. Enters the mouth full and ripe, then turns leaner and tougher, with juicy red berry and spice flavors framed by soft acidity. Clearly a warm-vintage wine, offering only modest complexity and depth for Tignanello, with a slightly overripe red fruit character. A wine I usually quite like, this strikes me as being one of the less memorable Tignanellos made. The long finish hints at subtle fruit and soft acidity. Rating: 88 Ian d'Agata, www.vinousmedia.com (Sept 2014)

Marchesi Antinori

The Antinori family has been making wine for over six hundred years, since Giovanni di Piero Antinori became part of the Arte Fiorentina dei Vinattieri in 1385. Throughout their long history, spanning 26 generations, the family has always personally managed the business making innovative, sometimes courageous choices, always with unwavering respect for tradition and the land. They are also considered producers of 'Super Tuscan' wines. Today Marchese Piero Antinori is director of the company, assisted by his three daughters, Albiera, Allegra and Alessia. Tenuta Tignanello, with its famous Tignanello and Solaia vineyards, is situated between the Greve and Pesa valleys in the heart of Chianti Classico exactly between the little villages of Monteridolfi and Santa Maria a Macerata, 30km south of Florence.
