This is a first release for Peter and his team at the brilliant Terras D'Alter estate. They always leave a small parcel of the Viognier out to be harvested a little later than the other crop - it is usually brought in at the same time as the Syrah which goes into the Telhas - in 2012 they found such brilliant juice with high sugar but also very good levels of acidity - that the ever playful Peter just had to make something out of it -unadulterated late-harvest Viognier. Rich of course but I was really impressed by how light on its toes this was - deep dark dundee marmalade notes are kept pert and perky by a wonderful lifitng acidity. A great partner for a tarte tatin or delicious, powerful hard cheese, yum! This is a very limited production made i 2012 because it 'just could not be ignored' but a brilliant addition to the range. Beautiful racy lift of pear and peach, so juicy, it's a late harvest with no botrytis 100gl of sugar, and all the raciness you could want. No heaviness, and lovely dash and verve. Rating: 90 Tom Cannavan, www.wine-pages.com (Nov 2015)

Terras d'Alter is in the Alto Alentejo region in the south of Portugal, where the history of wine growing dates back to Roman times. This extensive history, and a focus which remains largely on native Portuguese varietals, is combined with the New World expertise of dynamic & enterprising winemaker Peter Bright, an Australian making wine in Portugal since 1982.
