Taking its name from this wild spot which for years was the home to the fearsome wild boar and other beasts, this is Agostino's Bordeaux blend. Perched on the steep hill right by the sea here in this beautiful corner of southern Tuscany. The vineyard is now a beautifully tamed part of the landscape. All the Bordeaux varieties are grown here and produce this classic Super-Tuscan. It completely over-delivers on joy. There is such a lovely, sophisticated feel to it. The delicious glossy fruit is perfectly mature and there is no sappy richness at all. A bright and crisp backbone keep this just so drinkable it is a brilliant wine at this price, effortlessly impressive and stylish.

A fresh, clean red with strawberry, cherry and lemon-rind aromas and flavors. Medium to full body, firm tannins and a crisp finish. Lots of bright acidity gives this backbone. Better in 2016.

A dark, sumptuous wine, the 2012 Poggio Bestiale offers tons of depth in a forward, voluptuous style that is best enjoyed on the young side, while the flavors remain bright. Mint, lavender and sweet spices add nuance throughout. The 2012 is an attractive wine, although it does not appear to have the delineation, energy or intensity of the very best years.

Nestled in the hilly Italian countryside of Maremma Toscana with its vineyards descending towards the Thyrrhenian Sea from a height of 300m, The vineyards here offer some of the best views we know of the Tuscan coastline.
La Fattoria di Magliano was set up in 1996 by Agostino Lenci. Agostino, fascinated by the history of the region and its centuries old wine-making traditions, sees his job and duty to safeguard nature – both wild and agricultural. Minimum intervention and limited development makes for wonderfully healthy vines and truly characterful wines.
Twenty years on these beautiful vineyards are maturing and producing the best fruit of their lives, vine age and bio-dynamic practices means these wines now really are better than ever since the first harvest in 2003. And we should not forget that even when young these vineyards were producing wonderful fruit - the 2004 Poggio Bestiale was rated Italy's best Tuscan wine under £20 in Decanter magazine – quite an achievement for a wine with such a short history. The soil here is sandy with a good amount of clay, which combined with a good dose of sunshine and sea breeze, results in some really beautiful wines – full-flavoured, rippley rich but with a dynamic twang of acidity and pep that makes them just so drinkable.
