2013 Sauvignon Blanc Two Rivers of Marlborough

Grapes Sauv Blanc
Colour White
Origin New Zealand, South Island
ABV 13.9%

From the acclaimed 2013 vintage which was heralded locally as the best growing season for 30 years this is the inaugural release of Dave's 'Altitude' Sauvignon Blanc. As the team there explains - 'We picked our finest block, dropped 50% of the fruit, spent an uncommercial amount of time managing the canopy and handpicked only the finest bunches. This was then 'Wild' fermented and left on its lees for months, this is Dave showing his true talent as a winemaker. We believe it's his finest wine to date.' L&S (Jun 2014)

Think back to the first time you tasted a great Marlborough Sauvignon (I remember the first ever UK release of Cloudy Bay in 1987) and then fast forward via numerous, dreary, fruit-cocktail-soaked, confected versions to today. My pledge to you is that this wine will re-engage you with this region and its flagship grape like no wine before it. Altitude is awesomely concentrated drawing some of its beguiling depth from judicious use of 7 year-old oak barrels. 2013 is a stunning vintage in Marlborough and the grapes were handpicked form the very best blocks to make this incredible release. This is a wine that has the class of Cotat’s Chavignol Sancerres and Dagueneau’s Pouilly-Fumés. It is a rare work of art. (MoneyWeek) Matthew Jukes www.matthewjukes.com (Dec 2014)

A refined, elegant, classy Sauvignon Blanc with wonderful mouthfeel and integrity. Intense, golden straw colour with aromas of ripe mango and tropical fruit including guava and passion fruit, interlaced with flinty nuances, toasty almonds and fresh brioche. The palate is taut and focused with excellent concentration, balanced with ripe, juicy acidity. The oak is wellintegrated, providing complexity and elegance. The perfect match with smoked salmon dishes and soft cheeses. Drinking range: 2014 - 2020Winemaker's notes (Oct 2014)

Two Rivers of Marlborough

David Clouston is originally from Marlborough, and after 22 vintages abroad from Oregon to Chile, Corsica to Alsace, he returned home and set about exploring the valleys and diverse terroirs of Marlborough. The main production is the Sauvignon made from fruit from both the Awatere and Wairau river valleys, whence the 'Two Rivers of Marlborough' name, but his hillside Pinot Noir is showing great potential.
