CHÂTEAU LA TOUR CARNET

2013 4ème Cru Classé Haut Médoc

Colour Red
Origin France, Bordeaux
Sub-district Haut Médoc
Classification 4ème Cru Classé

Bernard Magrez’s dense ruby/plum/purple-colored 2013 La Tour Carnet possesses good depth and ripeness as well as a rich, concentrated character. Even though there is something one-dimensional about this cuvee (no doubt because of the vintage’s shortcomings), it is a successful effort in this tough vintage. Drink it over the next 4-5 years. 2014-2019 Rating: 85-87 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, www.RobertParker.com (Aug 2014)

There is not a lot of fruit showing on the nose and the start of the palate tight with quite aggressive tannins. Cassis and black cherry give more weight a richer feel but the obvious tannins close down the finish. 2016-27 Rating: 85-87 Derek Smedley MW, www.dereksmedleymw.co.uk (May 2014)

Impressive deep colour, good Cabernet black fruits, good structure and length, good future. Drink: 2018-2024. Rating: 16.25 Steven Spurrier (Apr 2014)

Rounded, friendly style, with a core of blueberry and plum fruit coated liberally with a roasted vanilla bean note. A bit obvious in style but has the fruit for balance. Rating: 86–89 James Molesworth, The Wine Spectator (Apr 2014)

Château La Tour Carnet

Chateau La Tour Carnet, owned by Bernard Magrez is one of the oldest Bordeaux wine producers in the appellation. In fact, some parts of the building, specifically the round tower, date all the way back to the 11th Century. The fortress was inhabited by the English as early as the 12th Century. It was an important fort that was used by the military. Originally, it went under the name of Chateau de Saint-Laurent. The land eventually fell to French rule. After centuries of war, the ruined property passed through the hands of a succession of owners, before coming to Thibault de Carmaing in the 16th Century and eventually to Charles de Leutken. The Bordeaux wine estate remained with his descendents. During the 1855 classification, the estate was under the direction of Angélique Raymond. The current owner is Bernard Magrez, who is the proprietor of a number of other Bordeaux estates, most notably Pape Clément in Pessac-Léognan. He also owns Fombrauge in St. Emilon. Chateau La Tour Carnet is one of the top producers in Haut Medoc and lesser appellations area today.
