An attractive, easygoing, low-level Bordeaux with modest black cherry and black currant fruit intermixed with underbrush and loamy soil notes, and a medium-bodied, delicate finish, the 2013 Lalande Borie can be drunk over the next 3-4 years. 2014-2018 Rating: 85-86 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, www.RobertParker.com (Aug 2014)

Good medium ruby. Aromas of crunchy black raspberry, smoke, coffee bean and baking spices. Fresh plum and red berries show a clear herbal streak. Then richer and creamier on the palate, with good structure and grip to the flavors of blackcurrant, minerals and smoke. This closed up considerably in the glass and showed building tannins with aeration, finishing firm and moderately persistent. Lalande-Borie belongs to Bruno Borie of Ducru-Beaucaillou; he has always told me these grapes come from the western part of Saint-Julien and therefore grow on a completely different soil and microclimate from the areas where Ducru-Beaucaillou and Croix de Beaucaillou are made (though grapes from what used to be the estate of Terrey-Gros-Cailloux, the vines of which are located in the center of the appellation, are also used to make Lalande-Borie). Certainly, the flavor profile between this wine and the other two cannot be any more different. Rating: 85-88 Ian d'Agata - Stephen Tanzer website (May 2014)

(70 Cabernet Sauvignon, 26 Merlot, 4 Cabernet Franc) Very forward and juicy and some touches of oak, development and leather but pretty well knit already. Smooth, sultry and fragrant. A little tannic on the finish. Rating: 16 Matthew Jukes www.matthewjukes.com (Apr 2014)

70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc. 30% new oak. Black cherry, really smooth and sleek. Well-managed tannins, just giving a nice chewy finish. Lots of dark chocolate – but not too bitter. 2017-2023 Rating: 16 Richard Hemming MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Apr 2014)
