Virtually non-existent on the nose. Some fruit on the palate – but mostly tannin. Not much flesh. Pretty skeletal. (RH) Drink 2017-2020. Rating: 14.5 Richard Hemming MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Apr 2014)

Good fresh fruit, middle sweetness and fine balance. Drink: 2016-2021. Rating: 16.25 Steven Spurrier (Apr 2014)

Oliver Bernard's Lespault-Martillac demonstrates admirable concentration on the nose with blackberry and tealeaf scents, a hint of green bell pepper in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins. This feels quite soft in the mouth thanks to the 65% Merlot with a Pomerol-like finish that is appealing, although it does not convince you of anything seriously long-term. Rating: 87-89 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Apr 2014)
