A smoky nose presents notes of matchstick, citrus and pear scents. Here too there is plenty of punch to the detailed, pure and lightly mineral-inflected middle weight flavors that exude a subtle salinity on the solidly persistent and well-balanced finish that is notably dry yet not really austere. 2018+

His 2013s showed well in our extensive tastings (you can find them via this guide to our 1,800 tasting notes or via our tasting notes search) and I thought this Hubert Lamy, La Princée 2013 St-Aubin Blanc one of the best-value whites on show, provided you are looking for a wine to drink within the next four or five years. La Princée is not a lieu-dit but is the Lamy cuvée name for a blend of wines from about three hectares of vines around the commune (whose vineyards have been lavishly awarded premier-cru status). I found it beautifully classic too, by no means a blockbuster but carefully sculpted and beautifully balanced. 'If only you could always find this sort of value from smarter appellations', I noted, marking it VGV for 'very good value'. (Wine of the Week, 30th Jan 2015).

The 2013 St. Aubin les Princée has a rather muted bouquet at the moment, with grass clippings and mulch aromas. The palate is better with fresh pear and nectarine on the entry, the 5% new oak just giving the finish a little lift, simple but with decent length. Enjoy over the next five years.

Very nice spring onto the palate. Silky texture in the middle; quite a straight palate. Stone fruit. Minerality comes through on the finish..a savoury slightly salty minerals.

Olivier Lamy, has built on the solid foundations his father Hubert prepared with twenty years and more of work in the vineyards. Today the Domaine has 18.5 hectares of vines - 80% are Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir. The vines are in several appellations - Saint-Aubin, Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet and Santenay. The reputation of the domaine is now made, but the Saint Aubins, both red and white remain some of the bargains of Côte d'Or, and challenge the supposed superiority of the grander villages on a regular basis, both in terms of young and mature wines.
