Vineyard Cabal Vineyard

Clean bright nose, pure cherry fruit melded with a little edge of spice on the nose which leads to a savoury, quite full-bodied mid-palate, with gently tannic structure, a wine with poise, good acidity and a good structure to frame the exuberant fruit flavours. Long and satisfying this is to drink now or over the next two or three years. L&S (Sept 2015)

Wonderfully complex and enticing bouquet of limestone-like mineral, ripe red berry fruits, distinctive oak and spice moments, highly textured, complex, dry, ripe berry flavours, layers of oak, fine silky. Drinking range: 2017 - 2025 Rating: 95 Decanter Magazine (Oct 2015)

A single vineyard wine from the Cabal Vineyard situated on the gentle north east slopes of the Waipara Valley. Intense aromas of red fruit, cinnamon and Chinese five spices with background notes of rosehip, earth, and herbal complexity as a result of the whole bunch component. On the palate there is generous fruit with a long, linear finish, resulting in a well-structured Pinot. The tannins are silky smooth and nicely grip the inside of your mouth, giving great balance to the fruit.Winemaker's notes (May 2015)

This follows on from the nicely refined 2012 version of this wine with attractive fragrance and perfume on offer plus a musk edge, chocolate, ripe red and purple cherry fruits, a whiff of freshly cut herbs and nicely integrated spicy oak. The palate has impressively smooth creamy flesh, the tannins read clearly and build handy shape and the flavors are tangy in the red and purple cherry spectrum. This carries effortlessly through the finish and is balanced and precise. Drink now. Rating: 94 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (May 2015)

Tongue in Groove

Six friends, five of them Roseworthy graduates (although the winemaker, Lynette Hudson, is a graduate of Lincoln) were prompted to form this 'perfect fit' team by the Canterbury earthquake and the realisation that they had to get on with doing something themselves as well as working for others. All well-connected in the NZ wine scene, they are able to source outstanding fruit and clearly have the expertise to turn this into outstanding wines. Check out their website at http://tongueingroove.co.nz/about/. Their first releases have already caused quite a stir - but are very limited in quantity.
