Pale ruby bowl, shy aromatics to start, spice, cranberry, mulberry and cherry, with a nice stalky tea note. Super sleek and intense with spice, red fruit, vibrant acidity, rich tannic weight and a long, bright pure finish. Really lovely sappy concentration of juiciness makes this really stand out. Drinking range: 2015 - 2022 L&S (Sept 2015)

Sweet with a hint of beetroot but lots of fun and appeal. Not sickly. But there’s a hint of veginess. Chewy end with some coffee oak notes. 14% Drink 2015-2017 Drinking range: 2015 - 2017 Rating: 15.5 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Nov 2015)

The Clayvin vineyard is situated at the end of the Brancott Valley and is one of New Zealand's original close planted vineyards. Crop levels are naturally low, producing small bunches with small berries and resulting in full-bodied, long-living Pinot Noirs. Traditional techniques are used with little winemaking influences, all viticultural practices follow organic principles, and the vineyard is certified organic. Clayvin vineyard produces Pinots with firm tannins but the palate shows a long, linear structure, all characteristics of the clay slopes of the Southern Valleys.Winemaker's notes (May 2015)

Tongue in Groove

Six friends, five of them Roseworthy graduates (although the winemaker, Lynette Hudson, is a graduate of Lincoln) were prompted to form this 'perfect fit' team by the Canterbury earthquake and the realisation that they had to get on with doing something themselves as well as working for others. All well-connected in the NZ wine scene, they are able to source outstanding fruit and clearly have the expertise to turn this into outstanding wines. Check out their website at http://tongueingroove.co.nz/about/. Their first releases have already caused quite a stir - but are very limited in quantity.
