A fantastic value wine, the 2013 Soave Classico is 85% Garganega and 15% Trebbiano di Soave refined in cement tanks. The wine paints a very authentic portrait of Soave thanks to the drying mineral notes that give definition to ripe peach, pear and honeydew melon. The wine is crisp and smooth in texture. Another year, another delicious Soave from Pieropan – and we're only (if that's the word) talking about the straight Classico, rather than either of the single-vineyard bottlings. It has a lovely blossomy freshness, lemon-scented fruit with a whisper of quince and honey and delicate, nutty, almond patisserie flavours. 95% Garganega, 5% Trebbiano di Soave. Brilliant straw yellow colour with greenish hints. The delicate nose is reminiscent of almond blossoms and marzipan. Good depth of fruit on the palate, nicely balanced by a zingy acidity that enhances its long length. Winemaker's notes (Jun 2014)
Pieropan
Founded in 1890, four generations of the Pieropan family have worked at this estate. They were the first family to bottle wine with the Soave name on label. Initially founded by Leonildo, a doctor from Soave, it is now his grandson who runs the estate with his sons Fausto and Gustavo. The 30 hectare estate is situated to the east of Verona, in the heart of the Soave Classico zone, and is predominantly planted with Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave.
