SPICE ROUTE

2013 Pinotage

Grapes Pinotage
Colour Red
Origin South Africa
ABV 14%

As with so many of the Swartland vineyards the grapes here are grow on untrained bush vines and well spaced out - the gap of about 3 metres between vines is as close as they can go - otherwise there simply is not enough water to go round. The Pinotage vineyards are not irrigated and the grapes are left to reach good ripeness on the vines, this is clear in the lovely, juicy and fruit-driven style you find in the glass. Delicious, quite round style of Pinotage, still some leather, some smoky notes but lots of glossy dark black berry-fruit too. Really attractive drinking and the only Pinotage to currently make it on to our list! L&S (Feb 2015)
