Pronounced 'Chackoolee'. Our first Txakoli comes from the family run Bodegas Berroja. Founded in 2001 the estate currently covers 37 acres of vineyards in the town of Muxika, Bizkaia - which is in the north of Spain between San Sebastian and Bilbao. In general Txakoli wines have a slightly spritzy character similar to vinho verdes from Portugal but whereas the latter are light wines with fresh, clean flavors and bright acidity, Txakolis have more complex aromas and depth of flavour on the palate along with a firm minerality that is their signature. This is a cracking example and the most wonderful array of flavours dance across your palate. There is a lovely complexity to the clean lines and pretty, perky floral notes. This is gorgeous and it is well worth taking an adventurous step to try this relatively hard to find style from the north of Spain.

This interesting wine is produced on a family-run estate in Spain’s Basque country. At first sip, it’s reminiscent of a Vinho Verde, with its gentle spritzy character. But Bodega Berroja’s Txakoli is much more complex, revealing layers of flavor, underpinned by an attractive bright acidity.
