Pale & Dry XO Grande Champagne

This is such an elegant cognac, a real perfumed delight. Still family owned this exudes class and pedigree. Fine lines a lifted floral character and then the smoothest glide to an enormously long, subtle yet riotously complex finish. Wow. This will convert even the most doubtful of minds to the wondrous ways of 'proper' cognac., pure class. L&S (Apr 2020)

Delamain’s youngest offering, at 20 to 25 years old, is also one of the standard-bearers of Grande Champagne (the blend was created in the 1920s and hasn’t changed). Light amber, with a delightful nose full of pear, marmalade, quince and orange blossom. The pear and quince carry onto the palate, where a distinctive membrillo-like flavor emerges — a unique note I find in a number of Delamain expressions. There’s gentle spice and warm citrus on the palate, gliding to a long, delicate finish. The definition of elegance. (40% abv) Rating: 96 Jason Wilson, vinous.com (Oct 2019)

Delamain is one of the last family-owned Cognac houses. This is a beautiful old Cognac made using the best eau-de-vie from the Grande Champagne region – powerful, mellow and subtle, all at the same time. A heroic after-dinner treat.Matthew Jukes www.matthewjukes.com

Delamain

The House of Delamain is one of the oldest names in the cognac business, with roots dating back to the early 1600s when Nicholas Delamain left France for Ireland. However, it wasn't until 1725 that descendant James Delamain moved back to France and joined forces with cognac trader Issac Ranson to create Ranson & Delamain. After James' death in 1800, the company fell apart due to inheritance laws, and it wasn't until 1924 that his grandsons restablished the firm in the family name and it became Delamain & Co. Today, Delamain is one of the last family-run cognac houses, and has a very strict selection process when it comes to choosing their supplies. They do not have any contracts and only purchase after tasting, to ensure the very best quality. The company doesn't have any VS or VSOP cognacs, its entry level is a 25 year old XO - The Pale & Dry
