BARNAUT Blanc de Noirs Brut Grand Cru Bouzy
| Grapes: Pinot Noir |
Origin: France, Non Vintage |
Lea & Sandeman review
A big, full-blown, powerful blanc de noirs (100% Pinot Noir from the Grand Cru vineyards of Bouzy), which nevertheless retains a balance and freshness along with its considerable vinosity. Rated even higher than Bollinger by Bob (Parker) this is exceptional value!

Light, bright gold with a strong mousse. Citrus and pear aromas are underscored by subtle nuttiness, with dried flowers and honey adding complexity. Deep in orchard fruit flavors, with an element of lemon zest adding energy and lift. Definitely on the rich side, but there's also vivacity and balance. Finishes with gentle grip and an echo of floral honey. This would be great with washed-rind cheeses.

Blanc de Noirs champagne, made in this case entirely from black-skinned Pinot Noir grapes, is one of the few sparklers that can wash down punchy festive fare and perk up jaded palates. Edmond Barnaut at Bouzy is a new name to me but his full-bodied bubbly from the grand cru vineyards of Bouzy are a joy, and his powerful blanc de Noirs is full of seductive ripe, waxy, winey fruit that will have plenty of admirers.

(100% pinot with a relatively low dosage). An attractive nose of fresh tiny red berries
mixes with highly effervescent flavors that are utterly delicious and have a strong yeast character with a round finish that
doesn't seem nearly as dry as the dosage level would suggest. Lovely and easy to like yet complex and not at all simple with
a frank and open personality plus fine length. While you could age this further, to my taste it has largely arrived.

The Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru blossoms on the palate with an expansive core of perfumed fruit. This finely textured, silky wine possesses notable clarity and delineation in an understated yet pleasing style. The long, clean finish gives the wine a touch more freshness than the Brut Grand Cru Grande Reserve. This is a highly rewarding wine to enjoy over the next few years.

C'est l'archétype du beau champagne de table. Avec sa robe d'un or brillant, il développe un nez intense de pain grillé et de fruits rouges. En bouche il exprime avec beaucoup de jeunesse une présence dense et une plénitude gourmande.

Big and much more refined than the Aube Blanc de Noirs with which the UK (mass) market is flooded. Neat and crisper than the Grande Cru Reserve. Very appetising. VGV

From Bouzy. Lots of development on the nose – very flattering. Quite rich but beautifully balanced. Lemon mousse sensation. Very easy to drink.

Full-bodied and biscuity, sporting red berry, citrus and honey aromas and flavours. Dense, mouth coating and rich enough to stand up to seafood dishes.

Stock up with this great grower's Champagne, all from the Grand Cru rated vineyards of Bouzy, for a mere £21.19 per bottle with this extra bottle of the Blanc de Noirs thrown in. You cannot regret it.
With every man and his wife on the lookout for Champagne "deals", it is sad that so many people overlook the best "deals" of all - high quality, grower-made Champagnes, packed with character, and at prices significantly below any of the best prices you might find for Grande Marque Champagnes.
