* Recommended Right Bank

It was a tough year for the right bank with many properties badly effected by the frost. The worst damage was in the peripheral Côtes de Bordeaux and in the lower lying areas of the Saint Emilion and Pomerol plateau. The smartest properties on the limestone cote fared the best and many have produced some very good juicy wines with plenty of freshness and drive. The style of the vintage means these will be approachable relatively young and the best have the potential to age gracefully. Below are our picks across all price points.

For more information, including critic reviews, just click on the wine name. All wines can be ordered in six-bottle cases and different formats as long as these are offered by the property. Please see our TERMS for more details on bottling charges.

Smoky, lightly charry aroma from the oak and an inviting mineral/dusty quality and fresh, pure cassis fruit shines out. Succulent, the oak swallowed by the fruit on the palate. Concentrated and so full of fine, pure dark fruit. The tannins are compact but also somehow sweet, giving a firm but very smooth framework for the fruit. Long and fresh. Very good, and impressive harmony already. Drinking range: 2027 - 2040 Rating: 18 Julia Harding MW, www.JancisRobinson.com(Apr 2018)

I find a very pure expression of fruit on the nose, one that seems to combine definition with concentration, the fruit a perfumed plum, ripe and rich, but pure and fresh. This comes through on the palate, which shows wonderfully generous substance, supple and gently creamed, with a soft underbelly of ripe, lightly grained tannins and correct acidity. This is long, structured, poised and correct, with a lingering and grippy finish. This is one of the more impressive wines, from off the beaten right-bank track.
