You feel that in the wine's aromatic freshness and elegant weight. The nose is full of zippy red and black fruit, with a lick of green pepper. The entry is very slick indeed and the rich dark fruit is framed by new oak sweetness and spice. Some forest floor too. The energy and tension builds in the cheeks - there is excellent balance between weight and acidity. This is an excellent Viñedo Chadwick that should develop nicely over two the next two decades. The wine is aged 22 months in 73% new French oak. 2016 was a cool vintage that was poor for volume but very good for quality. Lots of primary red fruit on the nose. A little whiff of green pepper too. Very inviting. Intensity and concentration on the palate, the oak is not overdone - lots of attractive sweet fruit, some mineral grip and bright acidity. This wine has an 'old world' feel to it with the best of Chile thrown in. Drinking range: 2022 - 2035 Rating: 94 L&S(Sep 2018)

It has a wonderful, regal, stunning nose of violets, blueberries, and blackcurrant almost. It's seamless on the palate, with some camphor, menthol and rosemary notes to the fruit. There's sublime freshness, and the tannins are full and dense but very ripe. A mouth-filling, mouth coating and very intense wine, with a saline finish. Potentially worthy of a perfect score. What surprises me most about the 2015 is how fresh and vibrant the flavors are. Sweet red cherry, pomegranate, mint, and wild flowers are all beautifully lifted in this exquisitely perfumed, gracious Masseto. Despite the warm, drought conditions of the early summer, the 2015 is a wine of mid-weight structure, polish and restraint. In this tasting, it positively dazzles. I can't remember ever tasting a young Masseto with this much pure harmony. Other vintages have been super-impressive upon release. The 2004, 2006, 2010 and 2013 all come to mind. But the 2015 has a level of pure sensuality and allure none of those vintages had when young, with the possible exception of the 2004.
