Domaine Deiss: New Village-level Wines

Jean-Michel Deiss is a maverick by nature and an agitator by default. His son Mathieu who now makes the wines has clearly inherited this revolutionary approach. He’s continued to take on the establishment almost from the start of his tenure at this historic Alsace domaine, and the wines keep hitting greater heights. Organically crafted and brimming with character this is a brilliant new range.

Back in 2008, Robert Parker wrote 'Deiss’s vision involves a drastically diminished scope and roll for varietal bottling, analogous to his conception of Alsace crus as being best expressed by a blending of multiple cepages’.

This new group of wines brings this conception to the level of ‘village’ wines – the Alsace equivalent of village Puligny, Chassagne or Meursault in Burgundy. These are wines made from vineyards each planted with a blend of different local varieties, which are picked and vinified together to give these unique expressions of place.

‘Mathieu Deiss is slightly changing the style of the wines his father Jean-Michel preferred. Mathieu favors a more pure, precise, fresh and subtle style combined with the terroir-driven deepness and expression consumers are expecting when they are buying a wine from Marcel Deiss.’ (Stephan Rheinhardt, Robert Parker.com)

These stunning new wines are available now in our shops and on-line, but because we really think you should try them we have also created a very limited number of mixed cases at a special price available to order online with free delivery.
