SPARE 2015 CARO, Barons de Rothschild - Pre-shipment Offer

Started in 1993, Bodegas Caro is a joint venture between the Catena family and Domaines Baron de Rothschild. 'Caro' is their top cuvée and a blend of sumptuous Malbec with 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. Christian le Sommer (ex Chateau Latour) is is charge of the winemaking and part of the élevage is even conducted in old barrels from Château Lafite, so there's more than a sprinkling of first-growth magic in this cult Argie which is so much more appetising than the norm.

Luis Gutierrez of The Wine Advocate rated the new vintage 94/100 and called it his 'favorite vintage of Caro so far.' It shows its best after a few years in the cellar but just imagine tucking into it over a smokey assado or perfectly cooked steak. It will be well worth the wait.

Deeper on the nose than the 2015 Amancaya by a wide margin, offering aromas of cassis, licorice, graphite, mocha and tobacco leaf. Richer and deeper on the palate too, boasting excellent flesh and concentration as well as subtle sweetness to its blackcurrant and mineral flavors. Boasts lovely clarity and inner-mouth lift and spreads out horizontally on the back end, vibrating and building. The tannins are refined and not all austere; this distinctly Old World style of Malbec should evolve slowly and gracefully.
