Second Wines Offer

The second wines of the First Growths have been in demand for many years, but it is time we paid attention to the second wines of the Second Growths. Here are the wines from our 'Second Wines' offer, which we think offer remarkable value in this excellent vintage. Wines to buy in large format, because, frankly, you can afford to pour these generously in as little as five years' time.

Please note that we can source wines in any format if offered by the Château. Just indicate which size you would like in your wishlist order form or email us with a specific request. Bottling charges do apply so please see our Terms for more details.

Unsurprisingly, we find the same impressions in the mouth. Long and sappy, the wine is velvety, held taut by a lovely acidity and driven by an almost physical sensation of tannin. The red fruits (strawberry, cherry) are combined with sandalwood and cedar, a confirmation of the Pauillac terroir.Winemaker's notes(Jun 2020)

When it finally does, it reveals well-defined blackberry, raspberry and briary aromas, a touch of undergrowth/damp moss too. Where it really delivers is on the elegant palate framed by fine-boned tannins and a fine bead of acidity. A Pauillac-like, pencil lead tinged finish, that dare I say, is reminiscent of Lafite-Rothschild! This is well worth seeking out. Lots of seasoning here - some toast and some cracked peppercorns. This leads to a more mineral stony line a thread of undergrowth and hedgerow - with elderberry and a waft of very dark, salted chocolate. The feel is broad and richly weighted - but still quite well bound up. We tasted this throughout the afternoon and it loosened up the rich tannins softening slowly - the juice getting more generous and inviting over time. A seriously serious second wine! What a delight this will be to revisit in 10 or more years' time. Bravo!L&S(Jun 2020)

No excess weight - just very delicious. Stewed strawberry and sweet smashed red cherries, and a faint note of mocha - all held in place with good, firmish grip that balances it all and keep this charging on so well. It is the quality of the tannins that really impress here, a perfect frame for the delicious, deep fruit core, just enough rub to remind you this is not so 'Petit' after all.L&S(Jun 2020)

Firm morello cherry and redder berries on the nose, straightened out with that characteristic pencil lead too. Succulent and juicy on the palate. Red cherry-flesh explodes with deeply satisfying tang and juiciness. Great balance and measure. Fruit is redder and prettier - with a note of sweetness again. Tannins so slight you don’t notice them build - but they get quite firm and hold well. Delicious. Long life ahead - but very hard to resist already!L&S(Jun 2020)
