2010 Bordeaux – the week of the big guns – Margaux, Cos d’Estournel, l’Évangile kick it off

by Charles Lea

With Vinexpo over, this look like it will be the week of the big guns. This morning we have had the first tranche of Château Margaux, and at the end of Friday (by which time I, and most of the négociants in Bordeaux, had left the office), we had the release of l’Évangile. It is unlikely we will be able to open these up to new buyers, but not impossible, so get your orders in now.  Much the same applies to the limited volumes of Pavillon Rouge, Pavillon Blanc and Clerc Milon which have also been released this morning

One we can offer on general release is 2010 Cos d’Estournel, a wine I preferred to the 2009, at a slightly reduced price. This is still not exactly cheap, (but what did we expect?) and it is a fantastic wine. Buy as a treat if you want a First Growth to drink in this great vintage but don’t want to pay £8k+ a case.

I cannot tell you much about Cos Blanc (I’ve never been offered it to taste, – but Château Cos d’Estournel Blanc can be yours (subject to stock) at £265 for a case of six bottles.
