2013 Bordeaux 25/4 – Today’s releases including Figeac, Branaire Ducru and the Domaine de Chevalier siblings

by David Porter

There is not too much happening in Bordeaux that will counter the gloominess of this morning’s weather here.  There are, however, two particular releases we feel are worth noting.  Firstly that of BRANAIRE DUCRU (£275 per doz).  Relative to the vintage they have made a good wine this year – classic and attractive, we were impressed and so were most other tasters as you can see here and the price is fair without doubt, so a positive recommendation..? Whatever next? The second is DOMAINE DE CHEVALIER Rouge (£300 per doz) this is definitely amongst the successes of 2013 and at this price seems a very fair proposition.

CHÂTEAU FIGEAC too impressed during our week in Bordeaux and it is one of the wines we have been waiting for, with somewhat bated breath, to see how they would price it. Sadly, as Charles said to me this morning – this seems a little ‘dotty’ at £530 per dozen – but the wine is good and attractive.

The Whites this year have been impressive and one of the most consistent performers is DOMAINE DE CHEVALIER Blanc (£600 per doz).  This year we were not personally blown away by it, but it is important to note that among other critics this has fared very well – you can read all the reviews here.

Other wines released today are:

2013 CHÂTEAU LES CARMES HAUT BRION Cru Classé Pessac-Léognan (£325 per doz)

2013 CHÂTEAU LANGOA BARTON 3ème Cru Classé Saint Julien (£270 per doz)

2013 CHÂTEAU LA FLEUR CARDINALE Grand Cru Saint Emilion Château Fleur Cardinale (£240 per doz)

2013 CHÂTEAU LESPAULT-MARTILLAC Pessac-Léognan (£80 per six)
