2013 Bordeaux Primeur releases 16/04/2014 – Climens, Lafite

by Charles Lea

Today see the release of the top wine of Barsac, and the wine that is consistently second only to Yquem, Climens. At a price well below the current price of comparable vintages (all at £600-700), this looks a relative bargain for Sauternes lovers at £429 (as always at L&S this price applies to halves too, and cases of 6 bottles and 12 halves pro-rata). Not many critics seem to have noted it yet, since it requires a visit to the property and a multiple barrel tasting to do so,  but with Barsac seeming to take the palm this year it looks a good bet.

Just now we have seen the release of Lafite at £3200 per doz., or £1600 per six bottles in bond down a little on last year and by some distance (£2000 per doz) the cheapest Lafite in the market. With it comes the 2013 Carruades, at £990 per doz IB or £495 per six bottles IB. Offered subject to availability.

Other releases today include Jean-Philippe Janoueix’s Pomerol Croix Saint Georges (£300)
