Hot off the press: Magnums and Tapas

by Amy Swash

It appears that the press, like us, are gearing up for the festive season (stand by for our Christmas champagne offers) and Lea & Sandeman have been featured twice last weekend:

The Independent

Firstly in Anthony Rose’s Magnums bring a bit of majesty article in The Independent, who suggests that:

“Size isn’t everything, but having a magnum on the dinner table undoubtedly brings a bit of majesty. The wine in a 1.5cl bottle generally keeps better, so if you were thinking of laying the wine down, it is well-served by this bottle. Bodega Chacra’s 2013 Barda Pinot Noir, £44.75, Lea & Sandeman, comes from Piero Incisa della Rochetta’s Patagonian vineyard, currently producing the best pinot in Argentina, it’s bright and fresh and raspberryish”.

Magnums certainly add a bit of precedence to the dinner table-we have an excellent selection of Reds, Whites and Fizz both online and in the shops if you want to bring that something extra to a party.

The Guardian

Secondly, Fiona Beckett suggests What to drink with Tapas in The Guardian. The perfect alternative to canapés, Fiona says:

“…it’s also a really simple way to feed friends at home. An accompanying wine doesn’t have to be Spanish, of course, but why not, when Spain has so much to offer? For many, the automatic go-to drink to serve with tapas would be a glass of well-chilled fino or manzanilla sherry – fino being nuttier and better with ham and cheese, manzanilla saltier and better suited to seafood – but it’s worth exploring dry amontillado and palo cortado, too, especially with meatier tapas.”

It is not only the fortifieds that are a great match for Tapas, Fiona suggests that “while there’s always rioja, I’m currently smitten with bright, juicy Spanish reds such as Bodegas Viñaguarena’s exuberant Munia Toro Roble 6 Mesas 2011 (£9.95, or £8.95 by the case, Lea & Sandeman; 14.5% abv), a young tempranillo from the Toro region.”
