Christmas Grower Champagne offers from L&S feat. Larmandier-Bernier & Egly-Ouriet.

by Ed H-B

Antonio Galloni (un véritable ‘nez professionnel‘) recently reviewed a clutch of wines from two of our favourite grower producer Champagne producers: Larmandier-Bernier and Egly-Ouriet.

This gives us the perfect excuse to remind you just how good our grower champagnes really are in depth of flavour, complexity and structure and in terms of value compared to the Grande Marques. Their ‘non’ or low-dosage (added sugar) makes them a healthier alternative too, a triple whammy surely?

2009 LARMANDIER-BERNIER Terre de Vertus Non Dosé 1er Cru

2009-LARMANDIER-BERNIER-Terre-de-Vertus-Non-Dose-1er-Cru

Grapes: Chardonnay
Origin: France, Non Vintage
District: Champagne Village: Vertus
Classification: 1er Cru
ABV: 12.5%

Rich and explosive to the core, the 2009 Blanc de Blancs Terre de Vertus races across the palate with tons of depth and power. Dried apricots, honey, wild flowers and anise all blossom in the glass, but the 2009 is first and foremost a wine of structure. A creamy, textured finish rounds things out nicely. The combination of a ripe year and the non-dosage style work beautifully. The Terre de Vertus emerges from the Les Barillers and Les Faucherets lieux-dits. The Terre de Vertus is non-dosé. Disgorged January 2014.
