2015 Bordeaux – Clerc Milon, Ferrière, Haut Bages Liberal, Clos de Marquis & Grand Mayne

by David Porter

Clerc-Milon

A sunny start in London is matched by a surge of activity in Bordeaux with releases of some good wines this morning, they’re coming thick and fast now. Amongst these are some of the more interesting wines that we tasted during ‘primeur week’ in Bordeaux.

The headline release is probably Château Clerc Milon from the Rothschilds of Mouton. This is a really impressive wine in 2015, possibly their best yet and certainly a close match for the sublime 2010. It is, however, more expensive than we would have hoped. The Euro release price is 30% up on the 2014, but the wine is super and with great interest from the Far-East in this stable – we think this is justifiable and well worth a look. It will certainly not disappoint drinkers this is one of the great successes in 2015.

As ever we were hugely impressed by the wines from the dynamic Claire Villars, who makes beautifully crafted, real wines that are just so good to drink. Château Ferrière in Margaux was undoubtedly the pick of the bunch this year and offers really well-priced top quality claret for drinkers. More than £100 less per case than Clos du Marquis – Ferrière knocks it into a cocked hat in 2015. This is well worth considering en primeur to keep the cellar stocked up with good, reliable drinking wine that simply over-delivers.
