With the days getting longer and warmer (hopefully), this Spring-like Season calls for wines from the Jardin de France.\u00a0 The majestic beauty of France\u2019s longest river immediately calls to mind white wines \u2013 from crisp classic Sancerre at one end (actually nearer the middle, but let\u2019s not split hairs)(oh, go on, let\u2019s) to the flinty minerality of Muscadet at the other.<\/p>\n

But, along the way, there is elegant and refreshing ros\u00e9 \u2013 surely Sancerre Ros\u00e9 must be one of the classic ros\u00e9s and one of the few to seriously challenge the absolute pre-eminence of Proven\u00e7al ros\u00e9.\u00a0 And the interesting tap gets turned on fully with the reds \u2013 light elegant Bourgogne-esque Pinot Noirs and fascinating (and not always quite so light) Cabernet Francs, perhaps even a touch of Gamay.\u00a0 There\u2019ll be a fizz, of course.\u00a0 And, the pi\u00e8ce de resistance, some lush and seductive sweet wine.<\/p>\n

Bottles pop open at 8pm<\/strong> as the shop closes for normal business.\u00a0 The usual 15+ bottles of wine will guide you up and down the river, all presented in as relaxed and informal an atmosphere as is possible to imagine \u2013 no stuffy wine talk, no pushy salesmen, no wine pretentiousness; just you, the wine and your taste-buds.\u00a0 You should allow an hour to an hour and half to sup your way through.<\/p>\n

As ever, just \u00a315 a head is all we ask, paid in advance s\u2019il vous plait, and this \u00a315 we will gladly hand back when you are tempted to spend \u00a350 or more on the night.<\/p>\n
