Today’s releases include Ch\u00e2teau Margaux<\/strong><\/a> (\u00a32400)\u00a0which we tasted well, and like Mouton Rothschild it sits comfortably in the market below any available vintage. Its second wine Pavillon Rouge<\/strong><\/a> is also out at \u00a3795, while we have a very very small volume of Pavillon Blanc<\/strong><\/a> (\u00a3540 per six bottles).<\/p>\n

The other releases include Troplong Mondot<\/strong> <\/a>(\u00a3570), d’Issan<\/strong><\/a> (\u00a3290), Corbin<\/strong><\/a> (\u00a3185) – an attractive Saint Emilion to have in the cellar, but not a compelling buy this year.<\/p>\n

One we do lightly\u00a0recommend having tasted it several times with similar notes, is Ch\u00e2teau Meyney<\/strong><\/a> (\u00a3185). Meyney has a great terroir, the continuation of the gravel and sand\u00a0bank of the Gironde north of Ch\u00e2teau Montrose, and this northerly\u00a0area had significantly\u00a0less rain and none of the rot problems that affected so many M\u00e9doc properties in 2013. Whether drafting in Hubert de Bouard (of Ch\u00e2teau Ang\u00e9lus) as consultant late last year can really have made that significant a difference is hard to fathom, but there is no doubt that the wine that Meyney showed at the primeur tastings makes it one of their real successes.<\/p>\n

Meyney’s neighbour Ph\u00e9lan S\u00e9gur<\/strong><\/a> (\u00a3230) is also out today, but failed to excite in the same way at the tastings. As Neal Martin says, “I will seek to re-taste this after bottling because it does often improve. Fingers crossed!”.<\/p>\n

Finally this afternoon brings us Brane-Cantenac<\/strong><\/a> (\u00a3295), a wine which again we tasted several times and always quite well.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
