\"Austro-German-Wine-Tasting-L&S-Chiswick\"<\/div>\n

We’d love you to come along to this small tasting featuring some of our favourite producers from Austria and Germany.<\/p>\n

From Bert Salomon, in Austria\u2019s Kremstal region, we have the quintessential \u201cnot German\u201d grape \u2013 Gr\u00fcner Veltliner<\/a> \u2013 very much the in thing at the moment; we also have a brace of his Rieslings, including one aged in terracotta amphora, which is fascinating to taste. Off at only the smallest of tangents, we\u2019ll show a couple of Bert Salomon\u2019s red<\/a> wines from South Australia \u2013 sort of Austrian Australians, if you like.<\/p>\n

Also from Austria, there\u2019ll be some 2011 Austrian Blaufrankisch<\/a> (the 2010 given a whopping 17\/20 by Jancis Robinson) and the most delightful sweet wine<\/a> also from Hans Nittnaus.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ll show some beautiful Rieslings from Germany<\/a> to illustrate a) that they\u2019re lovely, b) that German wines deserve to lose their unfashionable tag, c) (dare I say) that a little<\/i> bit of sweetness isn\u2019t necessarily such a bad thing, and d) that Germany should be the obvious choice in the current trend for lower alcohol wines.<\/p>\n

For balance and variety, we may venture across the Rhine into Alsace<\/a> and we\u2019ll dally with a couple of Germanic(ish) inspired wines from the other side of the planet \u2013 Gew\u00fcrztraminer<\/a> and Riesling<\/a> from Down Under.<\/p>\n

All delightful wines and all perfect Summer drinking.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019ve not been to one of our tastings before, they\u2019re highly informal affairs with the emphasis on enjoying a bit of nice wine rather than an evening of driven sales talk \u2013 not, of course, that we object to you purchasing a bottle or two (see below).<\/p>\n

Bottles will uncork themselves at 8pm<\/strong>, as the shop closes. The line-up will run to around 15 different wines<\/strong>, all arranged for you to taste at your own pace \u2013 no lectures, no pressure, no stuffiness. Allow an hour to an hour and a half, I\u2019d say.<\/p>\n

All we ask is just \u00a315 a head that we\u2019ll hand you back when you spend \u00a350 or more on the night. Couldn\u2019t be simpler. Or more tempting. Space is limited, so places must be booked and paid for in advance.<\/p>\n
