This impressively made Medoc offers a lot of quality for its price. The 2009 reveals copious black cherry, black currant, earth, and spice notes intertwined with a hint of background oak. The nose is very youthful, with smoky and somewhat caramelised oak battling it out against a wealth of sweet fruit, led by the dark scents of blackcurrants and cherry, but there is also a fresh and lifted tinge of strawberry to it that is certainly quite noticeable, along with a rather subtle, leafy, blackcurrant-skin character.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"line-height: 19px;\"><em>This is a good wine, showing the worth of a vintage such as 2009, although the grippy tannin, as well as the youthful fruit and oak, don&#8217;t suggest this is an easy-drinking wine to pop and pour. Still youthful despite its ripe appeal, it will benefit from a moment in a decanter &#8211; or glass.<\/em>&#8216; <span style=\"color: #564d4a;\"><strong>L&amp;S (Sep 2014)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #564d4a;\"><strong>CH\u00c2TEAU D&#8217;AURILHAC<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Ch\u00e2teau d&#8217;Aurilhac is located almost directly west of Ch\u00e2teau Sociando-Mallet, on the Route de Lesparre which heads inland towards the M\u00e9doc domaines of Ch\u00e2teau Potensac and Ch\u00e2teau Preuillac. As such it is about four or five kilometres inland from the Gironde.
