{"id":24468,"date":"2016-05-01T14:28:47","date_gmt":"2016-05-01T13:28:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/blog\/?p=24468"},"modified":"2016-05-01T23:50:58","modified_gmt":"2016-05-01T22:50:58","slug":"victoria-moore-in-the-telegraph-dont-de-mystify","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/blog\/2016\/05\/victoria-moore-in-the-telegraph-dont-de-mystify\/","title":{"rendered":"Victoria Moore in the Telegraph &#8211; &#8216;don&#8217;t de-mystify&#8217; + 2 wines in the press this weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<div align=\"center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-24472\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-2207a.kxcdn.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Capture.jpg\" alt=\"Capture\" width=\"715\" height=\"158\" \/><\/div>\n<p>The L&amp;S team are so used to me going on about how the fun of wine is in the complexity and nuance, the origins, the whys and wherefores of how the flavours get into a glass of wine, that they might wonder if I had inspired this weekend&#8217;s article by Victoria Moore in the Telegraph, which, coming rather late to the party, I read over breakfast this morning.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-24498\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-2207a.kxcdn.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Victoria-Moore-and-Methuselah-of-MiP.jpg\" alt=\"Victoria Moore and Methuselah of Mip\" width=\"300\" height=\"479\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/food-and-drink\/wine\/dont-bother-demystifying-wine---the-magic-is-in-what-we-dont-kno\/\" target=\"_blank\">&#8216;Don&#8217;t bother &#8216;demystifying&#8217; wine \u2013 the magic is in what we don&#8217;t know&#8217;<\/a><\/strong> seems to me to be a fine a fine explanation of what independent merchants are trying to do &#8211; introducing their customers to the fun that can be had from the complexity of the world of wine.<\/p>\n<p>Hooray for someone prepared to say that this need neither be nerdy nor snobbish. As Victoria puts it: <em>&#8216;Mystery is not a challenging concept in most areas of life&#8230;. There is a sense of magic in the unknown, but for some reason we\u2019ve been hell-bent on removing it from wine. Why?&#8217;. <\/em>Why indeed. because it merely results in<em> &#8216;a reductive approach that, at its worst, diminishes it to the status of a factory-made, grape-based alcoholic beverage, which is a pity, because homogenisation limits fun.&#8217;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>There is also no need to be afraid of not knowing much, because <em>&#8216;With wine, the more you know, the more there always is to know. The more you find out, the more the mystery deepens.&#8217;&#8230; As the rock star Marilyn Manson said: \u201cDon\u2019t ever empty the bucket of mystery.\u201d Especially not if you\u2019re pouring it into a wine glass.&#8217;<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I cannot say how much we at L&amp;S agree with all this!<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\">2014 PUY-DE-D\u00d4ME PINOT NOIR &#8211;\u00a0Cave de Verny<\/h1>\n<p><em>&#8216;I recently looked up one of my favourite inexpensive pinot noirs. It\u2019s a light, sappy, savoury pinot, perfect for drinking slightly chilled as we head towards summer, from the Cave Saint Verny cooperative in the Puy de D\u00f4me region in the Auvergne.
