{"id":2636,"date":"2012-04-16T15:19:03","date_gmt":"2012-04-16T15:19:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/blog\/?p=2636"},"modified":"2012-05-24T15:49:50","modified_gmt":"2012-05-24T15:49:50","slug":"bordeaux-2011-around-a-tenner-and-one-a-bit-more","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/blog\/2012\/04\/bordeaux-2011-around-a-tenner-and-one-a-bit-more\/","title":{"rendered":"Bordeaux 2011 &#8211; around a \u00a3tenner, and one a bit more"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Bordeaux 2011 &#8211; around a \u00a3tenner, and one a bit more<\/h2>\n<p>Below is a short list of wines selected from those so far on the market which seem to me to offer the &#8216;no-brainer&#8217; bit of this (and any other)\u00a0vintage.<\/p>\n<p>For\u00a0those labels that\u00a0have depressingly come to be known as &#8216;investment-grade&#8217; wines, there\u00a0may have no level to go\u00a0out\u00a0which will satisfy the bargain hunters this year. Without Robert Parker&#8217;s notes to guide them most &#8216;investors&#8217; will be unwilling to commit. It is also unlikely that this year will yield sudden exponential growth. We will not really know until a few more prices are announced, but if investment is your goal do remember that it is not always the obvious &#8216;great&#8217; vintages which show the best price appreciation &#8211; ask anyone who bought 2004 first growths from us.<\/p>\n<p>For wines bought only\u00a0to drink, Bordeaux still offers many choices which, tarred by the image of the overpriced &#8216;gold rush&#8217; wines, are struggling to sell a a price level which would be called reasonable even in the struggling-to-be-fashionable\u00a0Languedoc or Rh\u00f4ne. This weird dichotomy in the market means that some of\u00a0these wines, bought <em>en primeur<\/em>, when margins all round are at their tightest, are a great opportunity for the value-minded drinker. For example, amongst the\u00a0properties offered\u00a0below, Pierre Taix&#8217;s 2008\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2011-chateau-la-mauriane-puisseguin-saint-emilion-16826-00.html?category=274\">La Mauriane<\/a><\/strong> was offered in\u00a0May 2009\u00a0at \u00a3115 per case in bond, which with duty and VAT at today&#8217;s rate works out at around \u00a314 per bottle delivered. The current price in our shops is \u00a322.95 per bottle. It&#8217;s a decent saving, I&#8217;d have thought, and an investment in future pleasure.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog-2207a.kxcdn.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/The-Vineyard-pf-La-Mauriane.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3110\" title=\"The Vineyard pf La Mauriane\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-2207a.kxcdn.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/The-Vineyard-pf-La-Mauriane.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"219\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/blog-2207a.kxcdn.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Pierre-Taix-with-one-of-his-Stockinger-foudres.png\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Pierre Taix takes a vast amount of trouble over this micro cuv\u00e9e, including using the same Stockinger foudres that are used by Remi Jobard and also by Domaine Tempier to give a very &#8216;straight&#8217; restrained oak effect.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blog-2207a.kxcdn.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Pierre-Taix-with-one-of-his-Stockinger-foudres.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Pierre Taix with one of his Stockinger foudres\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-2207a.kxcdn.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/05\/Pierre-Taix-with-one-of-his-Stockinger-foudres.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"315\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Similarly St\u00e9phane Dief&#8217;s amazing Medoc <em>micro-cru<\/em>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2011-clos-manou-medoc-16858-00.html?category=273\">Clos Manou<\/a><\/strong>, is \u00a3160 in en primeur, but retails around the \u00a330 per bottle mark when shipped.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bordeaux 2011 &#8211; around a \u00a3tenner, and one a bit more Below is a short list of wines selected from those so far on the market which seem to me to offer the &#8216;no-brainer&#8217; bit of this (and any other)\u00a0vintage.
