The ever dependable right-bank stable of\u00a0Denis Durantou<\/strong> has just been released. These are wines where the price-to-quality ratio is always off the scale – even more so so in a fresh and juicy vintage like 2016. The SAINTAYME<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0LA CHENADE<\/a> will provide enormous pleasure almost immediately. The\u00a0LES CRUZELLES<\/a> and\u00a0MONTLANDRIE<\/a> will reward some cellaring\u00a0but all are\u00a0worthy of strong consideration, particularly for those seeking lovely wines to drink that won’t break the bank. These all come very highly recommended <\/strong>and, if you needed any more persuading, most are at the lower end of our price estimates.<\/p>\n

SAINTAYME Grand Cru Saint Emilion<\/a> – \u00a362.50\u00a0<\/strong>per 6 IB<\/p>\n

‘This is a lovely, early-drinking Saint Emilion from Denis Durantou’\u00a0<\/em>–\u00a0Neal Martin, 88-90<\/p>\n

LA CHENADE Lalande de Pomerol<\/a>\u00a0– \u00a370\u00a0<\/strong>per 6 IB<\/p>\n

‘hugely enjoyable’\u00a0<\/em>– Jancis Robinson, 16.5<\/p>\n

CH\u00c2TEAU LES CRUZELLES Lalande de Pomerol<\/a>\u00a0– \u00a3100\u00a0<\/strong>per 6 IB<\/p>\n

‘Cellar space should be made for this sensual and engaging wine, and if prices follow their trend as in previous years, it could be one of the Right Bank’s outstanding value [wines]’ – <\/em>Neal Martin, 91-93<\/p>\n

CH\u00c2TEAU MONTLANDRIE C\u00f4tes de Castillon<\/a>\u00a0– \u00a387.50\u00a0<\/strong>per 6 IB<\/p>\n

‘Superb. Expect this to land towards the top of my banded score once in bottle’ –<\/em> Neal Martin, 91-93<\/p>\n

Also out today is another from the Mouton stable, CH\u00c2TEAU CLERC MILON<\/a>, at \u00a3290<\/strong> per 6 IB. This took time to unfold in the glass but ended up richer and fuller than the D’ARMAILHAC<\/a> (\u00a3195 per 6 IB). It is certainly a step up in terms of quality and that is reflected in critics’ reviews. Jancis Robinson was particularly impressed. She gave it\u00a017.5+ and described the wine as,\u00a0‘So cool!’<\/em>. Now that doesn’t happen every day…<\/p>\n
