Jancis says this is a wine that represents all that is best about the 2016 vintage. She&#8217;s absolutely right. It&#8217;s\u00a0a wine of typically profound structure but there is plenty of intense blackberry fruit behind all that\u00a0mass. As Galloni says, this has all the right ingredients to &#8216;age gracefully for decades&#8217; and, at \u00a3246 per half-dozen bottles in-bond, it&#8217;s good value too. This comes highly recommended.<\/p>\n<p>Also good value and highly recommended is the dependable Cru Bourgeois from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2016-CHATEAU-POUJEAUX-Cru-Bourgeois-Exceptionnel-Moulis-en-Medoc-27016-00.html?category=261\">CH\u00c2TEAU POUJEAUX<\/a>\u00a0at <strong>\u00a3260 per 12 bottles IB<\/strong>. Neal Martin gave it an impressive 91-93 praising it for,\u00a0&#8216;commendable depth and structure.&#8217; He thinks this is a Poujeaux that could well match\u00a0&#8216;the legendary wines from yesteryear.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Another\u00a0from Saint Julien released today\u00a0is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2016-CLOS-DU-MARQUIS-Saint-Julien-27026-00.html?category=120\">CLOS DU MARQUIS<\/a>\u00a0at\u00a0<strong>\u00a3470 per 12 bottles IB<\/strong>. We found this\u00a0had lovely purity and very good length when we tasted it at the Ch\u00e2teau. The critics were impressed too. Neal Martin gave it 93-95 and called it &#8216;majestic&#8217;. Jancis gave it 17, finding it &#8216;racy and rich.&#8217; Our only concern is that this is right at the top end of our price estimate but this probably just reflects the impressive\u00a0quality.<\/p>\n<p>From the right bank we are\u00a0offering\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2016-CHATEAU-LA-CLOTTE-Grand-Cru-Classe-Saint-Emilion-26984-00.html?category=123\">CH\u00c2TEAU LA CLOTTE<\/a>\u00a0released at <strong>\u00a3280 per 6 bottles IB<\/strong>. Neal Martin loved this wine, calling it &#8216;superb&#8217; and rating it\u00a094-96. He also commented that, since the property&#8217;s acquisition in 2014, Ch\u00e2teau La Clotte\u00a0is rapidly becoming one of the\u00a0Vauthier&#8217;s &#8216;standout wines alongside Ausone&#8217;. Praise indeed!\u00a0The only downside here is that there won&#8217;t be much available but do place an order anyway\u00a0and we will scour the Place to find you some.<\/p>\n<p>Two Chateaux owned by the negociant Dourthe which are out today and offer really great value are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2016-CHATEAU-BELGRAVE-5eme-Cru-Classe-Haut-Medoc-27042-00.html?category=261\">CH\u00c2TEAU BELGRAVE<\/a> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-2207a.kxcdn.com\/images\/favicon-Circular.png\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" \/>\u00a0(<strong>\u00a3150 per 12 IB<\/strong>) and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2016-CHATEAU-LA-GARDE-Cru-Classe-Pessac-Leognan-26893-00.html?category=261\">CH\u00c2TEAU LA GARDE<\/a> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-2207a.kxcdn.com\/images\/favicon-Circular.png\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" \/>\u00a0(<strong>\u00a3170 per 12 IB<\/strong>). There are some lovely notes for these wines this year, and we thoroughly enjoyed them when tasting in Bordeaux.<\/p>\n<p>Last but not least, a reminder that yesterday saw the release of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2016-DAME-DE-MONTROSE-Saint-Estephe-Chateau-Montrose-27023-00.html?category=118\">DAME DE MONTROSE<\/a>\u00a0at <strong>\u00a3156 per 6 bottles IB<\/strong>. This &#8216;delightful&#8217; (NM, 90-92) Dame has\u00a0&#8216;good raciness and energy&#8217; (JR, 17) and, for a wine of this pedigree and elegance, it is an absolute steal.
