{"id":27367,"date":"2017-05-30T08:16:26","date_gmt":"2017-05-30T07:16:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/blog\/?p=27367"},"modified":"2017-05-30T08:16:26","modified_gmt":"2017-05-30T07:16:26","slug":"2016-bordeaux-bank-holiday-release-of-gruaud-larose-and-sarget","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/blog\/2017\/05\/2016-bordeaux-bank-holiday-release-of-gruaud-larose-and-sarget\/","title":{"rendered":"2016 Bordeaux: Bank Holiday release of Gruaud Larose and Sarget"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ignoring the holidays in the UK and US, second growth <strong>Ch\u00e2teau Gruaud Larose<\/strong> was launched onto the market yesterday, along with its popular second wine <strong>Sarget de Gruaud Larose<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Half the vineyard here is now farmed biodynamically and this may account for what seems to be an increased transparency and detail in the wines.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gruaud (at \u00a3310 per 6 bottles IB)<\/strong> looks a reasonable buy for a second growth: we liked it (&#8216;<em>rather a glorious unforced style<\/em>&#8216;), many of the critics liked it even more than us, Neal Martin writing <em>&#8216;I love the focus here, a little understated at first but you cannot deny the intensity and precision on the finish. Moreover, this seems to be a slightly more detailed Gruaud, nuanced and long in the mouth. Excellent. <strong>(93-95)<\/strong><\/em>&#8216;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sarget (at \u00a3210 per dozen bottles IB)<\/strong> remains one of those wines which offer early drinking and excellent value, and which we recommend buying in magnums and double-magnums for spoiling parties. A claret with a gliding ease which is so Bordeaux &#8211; and so Saint Julien.
