This is perfectly\u00a0illustrated by the superb\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2016-CHATEAU-LAFON-ROCHET-4eme-Cru-Classe-Saint-Estephe-26995-00.html?category=118\">LAFON-ROCHET<\/a>\u00a0released today at\u00a0<strong>\u00a3204 per 6 bottles IB<\/strong>. Basile Tesseron, now aided by Jean-Claude Berrouet (of P\u00e9trus) continues to improve the quality at this estate. The proportion of Cabernet used in the blend is now at 67% &#8211; the highest to date, which may be why we found this more restrained than usual, but there is great potential here.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2016-CHATEAU-PEDESCLAUX-5eme-Cru-Classe-Pauillac-26883-00.html?category=119\">PEDESCLAUX<\/a> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-2207a.kxcdn.com\/photos\/Favicon-Circular-Lands.png\" alt=\"L&amp;S\" \/>\u00a0is out at <strong>\u00a3198 per 6 bottles IB<\/strong>. Neal Martin liked this wine&#8217;s &#8216;<em>brooding intensity<\/em>&#8216; as well as its &#8216;<em>gorgeous salinity and a long and persistent, lightly spiced finish<\/em>&#8216;. It&#8217;s a touch above our price estimate but we were impressed by its cool feel and silky texture. It also has\u00a0some impressive scores, including Neal&#8217;s 93-95\/100.<\/p>\n<p>The highly dependable\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2016-CHATEAU-CANTENAC-BROWN-Cru-Classe-Margaux-26927-00.html?category=121\">CANTENAC BROWN<\/a>\u00a0has been released at <strong>\u00a3237 per 6 bottles IB<\/strong>. Neal Martin thought this had lovely &#8216;<em>sorbet-like freshness<\/em>&#8216; and was &#8216;<em>certainly equal to the impressive 2015<\/em>&#8216;. We found it very attractive too &#8211; a wine that really shows off the natural density and sweetness of the fruit in this vintage.<\/p>\n<p>A rare bargain from Pomerol,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2016-CLOS-DU-CLOCHER-Pomerol-27235-00.html?category=124\">CLOS DU CLOCHER<\/a> has been released at <strong>\u00a3444\u00a0per 12 bottles IB<\/strong>. This micro-property (production is just 2,000 cases) sits in\u00a0pole-position right at the heart of the plateau and has really upped its game of late.\u00a0We loved the 2016&#8217;s focus and intent &#8211; it is pure\u00a0finesse from start to finish. Galloni was equally impressed calling it &#8216;<em>racy and succulent to the core<\/em>&#8216; and encapsulating\u00a0&#8216;<em>all the radiance of the vintage&#8217;,<\/em> while Neal Martin singled it out as one of his <em>&#8216;best potential value&#8217;<\/em> buys of 2016 Pomerol, giving it 93-95<em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2016-CHATEAU-TROPLONG-MONDOT-Grand-Cru-Classe-Saint-Emilion-26997-00.html?category=123\">TROPLONG MONDOT<\/a>\u00a0is also out at\u00a0<strong>\u00a3600 per 6 bottles IB<\/strong>. We found this thick, rich and gourmand but it&#8217;s\u00a0still surprisingly fresh and balanced. Galloni loved it, giving it 94-97\/100 and calling it &#8216;<em>plush, sensual and inviting<\/em>.&#8217; He thinks the 2016 &#8216;<em>is shaping up to be a jewel of a wine<\/em>.&#8217; This is recommended for those that like their Saint Emilion turned &#8216;<em>up to eleven<\/em>&#8216; (credit Neal Martin\u00a0for the Spinal Tap reference).<\/p>\n<p>Last, but clearly not least, is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2016-CHATEAU-MOUTON-ROTHSCHILD-1er-Cru-Classe-Pauillac-26938-00.html?category=119\">MOUTON ROTHSCHILD<\/a>. This is all on allocation with last year&#8217;s buyers. We are hunting more stock so let us know if you&#8217;re interested and we will do our best. Neal Martin wrote that this Mouton will simply\u00a0&#8216;<em>rivet you to the spot<\/em>&#8216; and gave it\u00a098-100\/100. Jane Anson called it &#8216;<em>astonishing!<\/em>&#8216; with &#8216;<em>depth and impact that closely approaches the 2010.<\/em>&#8216; While we wouldn&#8217;t quite go that far, we did see glimpses of the 2010 in its sheer density and power. However, this is a slightly drier style with a touch more of the characteristic juiciness on the finish that is so common in 2016. This will need plenty of time to\u00a0reveal itself but it will be a beautiful Mouton.<\/p>\n<p>Also out from the Mouton stable is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2016-AILE-D-ARGENT-Chateau-Mouton-Rothschild-26864-00.html?category=117\">AILE d&#8217;ARGENT<\/a>\u00a0at\u00a0<strong>\u00a3324 per 6 bottles IB<\/strong>. This didn&#8217;t quite have the energy of the 2015 but it does still have a very attractive spice and a nice fullness. It&#8217;s really very good\u00a0given that 2016\u00a0was definitely not the easiest vintage for whites.
