A huge thank you to all who attended last night’s NSPCC Fine Wine Challenge. With a couple more tables crammed in this year, this was the biggest yet, and even so, thanks to the other committee members solid work pre-Christmas, we even had a waiting list for tables. A huge thank you too to all the L&S staff who gave their time for the evening, accurately pouring over 2500 glasses in the hour before the quiz began, to Andrew Hooper, L&S alumnus and quizzer extraordinaire for his witty quiz which included a lot of references to 30th anniversaries, and especially to the magnificent Matthew Jukes and MC and quizmaster who managed (just) to keep the room under control.<\/p>\n

This was the 21st year of L&S’s support for the Fine Wine Challenge, and we love the way that this event leverages our contribution to make such a staggering sum in one evening. (The total raised was in excess of \u00a3250,000, with counting still continuing.) It is then somewhat humbling that, at \u00a346,000 a day to run Childline, this event only keeps it going for less than six days.<\/p>\n

      Matthew Jukes mentioned that at a recent lunch at the River Cafe for his wife Amelia’s birthday, he had taken along some quite fancy wines but that they had bought a bottle from the list which Amelia declared the best wine of the day – that was 2021 TASSINAIA Castello del Terriccio<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n
