Of course &#8216;little wines&#8217; is a\u00a0misnomer since they are far from little and offer some of the best value in Bordeaux &#8211; just at a more accessible price than his &#8216;big wine&#8217;<strong> l&#8217;\u00c9glise Clinet<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Denis was really very excited about his acquisition of the\u00a0Castillon property of Ch\u00e2teau <strong>Montlandrie<\/strong> in 2009. The vineyard, it was true, was in quite a rough state and he has had to replant much of it, but the older vines still in production show the potential of what he calls &#8216; the second best <em>terroir<\/em> I have after l&#8217;\u00c9glise Clinet itself&#8217;. Like the ridge of Saint Emilion, the heights of Castillon are at about 80-90 metres, the same limestone-clay at the same height as the classic Saint Emilions like Troplong Mondot.<\/p>\n<p>The wines of <strong>Montlandrie<\/strong> are a little harder to taste when very young than the clay and gravel based wines\u00a0<strong>la Chenade<\/strong> or <strong>Les Cruzelles<\/strong>,\u00a0&#8211; so typical of the wines from limestone which have a restraint and purity which means they can take some time to unfurl &#8211; but\u00a0this is a classical style and worth the wait.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a title=\"2012 Chateau Montlandrie\" href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2012-CHATEAU-MONTLANDRIE-Cotes-de-Castillon-18654-00.html?category=123\" target=\"_blank\">Find 2012 CH\u00c2TEAU MONTLANDRIE C\u00f4tes de Castillon here<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blog-2207a.kxcdn.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Denis-Durantou.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-7914\" title=\"Denis Durantou\" alt=\"Denis Durantou\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-2207a.kxcdn.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Denis-Durantou.png\" width=\"495\" height=\"365\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Denis Durantou<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You will have seen our earlier push on Denis Durantou&#8217;s &#8216;little wines&#8217;, not to mention the little video about the 2012\u00a0vintage.
