{"id":93,"date":"2009-11-13T16:39:00","date_gmt":"2009-11-13T16:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"\/?p=93"},"modified":"2011-09-09T16:15:13","modified_gmt":"2011-09-09T16:15:13","slug":"nspcc-city-fine-wine-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/blog\/2009\/11\/nspcc-city-fine-wine-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"NSPCC City Fine Wine Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last night over twenty top city names hosted tables at what has become one of the NSPC&#8217;s top annual fundraisers, the City Fine Wine Challenge.<\/p>\n<p>A Champagne Barnaut reception was followed by an interactive quiz, with\u00a0me acting as quiz master, and almost the entire Lea &amp; Sandeman staff helping to pour wines throughout the evening.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-2207a.kxcdn.com\/blog\/default\/images\/PDS%20and%20Poured%20wines.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"289\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Questions relating to the wines, as well as\u00a0more general wine knowledge taxed the audience who were given the opportunity to buy 50\/50 clues as well as outright answers.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-2207a.kxcdn.com\/blog\/default\/images\/City%20fine%20wine%20challenge2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"309\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The white wines included two Kiwis, 2008 Gladstone Sauvignon and Rippon Gewurztraminer,\u00a0followed by\u00a0a not-so-classic rich white Burgundy from the incredibly talented Jean Thevenet, 2005 Vir\u00e9 Cless\u00e9 Quintaine. The red wines were Emmanuel Reynaud&#8217;s old vines Grenache-based 2005\u00a0Ch\u00e2teau des Tours C\u00f4tes du Rh\u00f4ne,\u00a0a beefy \u00a02006 Greenock Rise GSM from Maverick in the Barossa, and a\u00a0classic\u00a0Pomerol in the form of 2000 Seuil de Mazeyres. The quiz was rounded off with a glass of the rich and raisiny sweet Pedro Ximenez &#8216;El Candado&#8217; from Valdespino, accompanied by raisin and Rivesaltes flavoured dark chocolates from Demarquette.<\/p>\n<p>A lively auction, conducted by\u00a0Allsop&#8217;s\u00a0most ebullient auctioneer Duncan Moir, kept everybody on the edge of their seats, raising over \u00a330,000.00 to add to the evening&#8217;s total.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog-2207a.kxcdn.com\/blog\/default\/images\/NSPCC%20Staff%20helpers1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"490\" height=\"307\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On the back of the evening&#8217;s great success I launched my own Marathon bid, pledging to run the 2010 Virgin marathon (my very first marathon, and on the wrong side of fifty)\u00a0on behalf of the NSPCC &#8211; look out for my sponsorship appeal in February 2010!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\"
