Words like these:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #564d4a;\"><strong>&#8216;<em>Our scores speak for themselves: there&#8217;s no question that LEA &amp; SANDEMAN is one of Britain&#8217;s top wine merchants.<\/em>&#8216;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Praise indeed.<\/p>\n<p>SNP tasting? Worry ye not, we haven&#8217;t gone all Scottish and separatist on you; SNP &#8211;\u00a0<strong>S<\/strong>angiovese, <strong>N<\/strong>ebbiolo and <strong>P<\/strong>inot Noir &#8211; three grape varieties that offer succour to the senses rather than slapping you in the face with a bucket of fruit and oak. Also, three grape varieties that neatly cover two areas of particular <strong>LEA &amp; SANDEMAN<\/strong> speciality &#8211; Italy and Burgundy.<\/p>\n<p>So, to the wines that inspired such praise.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><strong>SANGIOVESE<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2011-ROSSO-DI-MONTALCINO-Ginestreto-Fuligni-18258-00.html?pack=22535&amp;term=ginestreto&amp;page=\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Rosso di Montalcino &#8216;Ginestreto&#8217; 2011 Fuligni<\/span><\/a> <\/span>\u00a0&#8211; \u00a0\u00a319.95<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>&#8220;Rosso, made from the same local Sangiovese Gross clone as Brunello, is an affordable way of getting a flavour of a top Brunello. This one is Rosso at its smartest, with pure, precise, elegant fruit, savoury, nutty, spicy flavours and a soothing dryness.&#8221;<\/em><br \/>\n89 points, www.thewinegang.com<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2011-IL-LABIRINTO-Poggerino-18868-00.html?pack=23399&amp;term=labirinto&amp;page=\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Il Labirinto 2011 Poggerino<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0 &#8211; \u00a0\u00a312.95<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>&#8220;This would be Chianti Classico if Piero Lanza didn&#8217;t choose to declassify it, which he does because he makes it from Poggerino&#8217;s younger vineyards. In fact, for drinking now, we&#8217;d take this this simpler, juicier Sangiovese over the more structured, mineral 2010 Chianti Classico.&#8221;<\/em><br \/>\n88 points, www.thewinegang.com<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2011-ROSSO-DI-MONTEPULCIANO-Dei-18236-00.html?pack=22513&amp;term=rosso+montepulciano&amp;page=\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Rosso di Montepulciano 2011 Dei<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0 &#8211; \u00a0\u00a312.95<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>&#8220;A demonstration of how enjoyable and what good value the junior wine, the Rosso, of a good estate in Montepulciano or Montalcino can be. This is perfumed, vibrant, fleshy and easy to drink. And just to keep you on your toes, the grape variety is a clone of Sangiovese called Prugnolo Gentile (there&#8217;s also 5% each of Canaiolo and Merlot in this wine).&#8221;<\/em><br \/>\n88 points, www.thewinegang.com<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #0000ff;\"><strong>NEBBIOLO<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2009-BAROLO-Vigneto-Albarella-Andrea-Oberto-18859-00.html?pack=23385&amp;term=albarella&amp;page=\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">B<span style=\"color: #800000;\">arolo Vigneto Albarella 2009 Andrea Oberto<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0 &#8211; \u00a0\u00a341.50<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>&#8220;A beautifully fragrant, fresh and succulent Barolo from the Cru of Albarella (and as it happens the cheapest of the three Crus made by the Oberto family). The fruit has wonderful depth and sweetness complemented by a dark chocolate richness and savoury, meaty character. Very long.&#8221;<\/em><br \/>\n93 points,\u00a0www.thewinegang.com<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2010-BARBARESCO-Fausoni-Sottimano-18865-00.html?pack=23393&amp;term=fausoni&amp;page=\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Barbaresco Fausoni 2010 Sottimano<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0 &#8211; \u00a0\u00a344.95<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>&#8220;Fausoni is one of the four Crus of Barbaresco in which the Sottimano family has vineyards, but it&#8217;s the only one with sand \u2013 clay and sand to be precise. This gives it a wonderful almond and floral perfume with a touch of vanilla and tannins that are persistent but fine-grained and entirely manageable, even in so young a wine. Great length and a great future.&#8221;<\/em><br \/>\n92 points,\u00a0www.thewinegang.com<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2009-BAROLO-Vigneto-Albarella-Andrea-Oberto-18859-00.html?pack=23385&amp;term=barolo+2009&amp;page=\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Barolo 2009 Andrea Oberto<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0 &#8211; \u00a0\u00a341.50<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>&#8220;The Oberto family make ten wines, including Barolo from each of three of top Crus (see the Albarella above), but this is the straight Barolo and it&#8217;s textbook stuff \u2013 pure and elegant, yet full and intense, and beautifully aromatic with coating but not heavy tannins.&#8221;<\/em><br \/>\n92 points,\u00a0www.thewinegang.com<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2012-LANGHE-NEBBIOLO-Cigliuti-18832-00.html?pack=23346&amp;term=cigliuti&amp;page=\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Langhe Nebbiolo 2012 Cigliuti<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0 &#8211; \u00a0\u00a317.95<\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #993300;\">A new producer to LEA &amp; SANDEMAN in 2013 with a lovely range of Piedmontese varietals and, of course, superb Barbaresco. \u00a0But, as we can see, the Langhe Nebbiolo is quite a find.<\/span><br \/>\n<em>&#8220;The Cigliuti family is renowned for Barbaresco, especially its Serraboella, but we think the humbler Langhe Nebbiolo is hard to beat for sheer deliciousness, verve and Nebbiolo-ness. The fruit is all fragrant plums and cherries, there are glimpses of dried damson and tar, there are soft dry tannins and a clean, fresh finish.&#8221;<\/em><br \/>\n90 points,\u00a0www.thewinegang.com<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2011-LA-MAGGIORINA-Le-Piane-18920-00.html?pack=23477&amp;term=maggiorina&amp;page=\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">La Maggiorina 2011 Le Piane<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0 &#8211; \u00a0\u00a314.95<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>&#8220;A characterful, stylish and supremely drinkable blend of Nebbiolo and the equally local Croatina from a small estate in the tiny, wooded Boca region, Piedmont&#8217;s most northerly DOC. Juicy and supple with cherry fruit and a savoury undertow of pepper and graphite.&#8221;<\/em><br \/>\n88 points,\u00a0www.thewinegang.com<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>PINOT NOIR &#8211; <em>Burgundy<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2007-CHAMBOLLE-MUSIGNY-Domaine-J-Confuron-Cotetidot-12078-00.html?pack=15265&amp;term=chambolle+2007&amp;page=\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Chambolle Musigny 2007 Domaine Confuron-Cotetidot<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0 &#8211; \u00a0\u00a343.75<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>&#8220;Fine-boned, perfectly mature village wine. Elegant aromas of rosehip and spice, succulent yet crisply defined Pinot Noir fruit, a glossy texture and fine tannins. An alluring fragrance of roses, raspberries and cherries and a satin-smooth texture hide a firm structure beneath. Iron fist, velvet glove.&#8221;<\/em><br \/>\n91 points,\u00a0www.thewinegang.com<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2010-FIXIN-Petits-Crais-Domaine-Huguenot-16472-00.html?pack=20718&amp;term=fixin&amp;page=\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Fixin Petits Crais 2010 Domaine Huguenot<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0 &#8211; \u00a0\u00a325.95<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>&#8220;Ripe, modern, full Pinot Noir, but utterly true to its clay-soil Burgundian terroir. The fruit \u2013 black as well red berries \u2013 is deep and fleshy and underpinned by polished tannins and well-defined acidity. The 23-hectare domaine is completing its fourth fully organic vintage this year.&#8221;<\/em><br \/>\n90 points,\u00a0www.thewinegang.com<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2008-GIVRY-1er-Cru-a-Vigne-Rouge-Domaine-Francois-Lumpp-13251-00.html?pack=16495&amp;term=lumpp&amp;page=\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Givry 1er cu \u00e0\u00a0Vigne Rouge 2008 Domaine Fran\u00e7ois Lumpp<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0 &#8211; \u00a0\u00a325.95<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>&#8220;Five years old but still flowing with youthful Pinot Noir fruit and perfume. It has an elegant floral nose and a soft, light palate with hints of bergamot and earl grey tea.&#8221;<\/em><br \/>\n84 points,\u00a0www.thewinegang.com<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2011-PINOT-NOIR-Awatere-Selection-Two-Rivers-of-Marlborough-18915-00.html?pack=23466&amp;term=two+rivers&amp;page=\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Two Rivers Awatere Selection Pinot Noir 2011 Marlborough<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0 &#8211; \u00a0\u00a319.95<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>&#8220;The fragrance and sweet fruit of this hillside Pinot have a clarity, freshness and polish that give it a sophistication lacking in the average Marlborough Pinot Noir. This is more expensive, of course, but here you get what you pay for.&#8221;<\/em><br \/>\n90 points,\u00a0www.thewinegang.com<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.leaandsandeman.co.uk\/wine\/2011-BENDIGO-Pinot-Noir-The-Crater-Rim-17215-00.html?pack=21694&amp;term=bendigo&amp;page=\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">The Crater Rim Bendigo Terraces Pinot Noir 2011 Central Otago<\/span><\/a><\/span><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0&#8211; \u00a318.95<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>&#8220;Big, rich, ripe and spicy &#8211; a description that may make it sound more like an Australian Shiraz, but this is Pinot Noir at the full, generous end of the spectrum.
