Alain Raynaud bought this property seven years ago, and has brought it up from a wine which was sold in lightweight bottles in supermarkets to where it is today. The vineyard is gravel, and is entirely surrounded by the town of Libourne (hence ‘l’Enclos). I did not taste this this year, but Robert Parker clearly liked it and the wine has fans from earlier vintages, so it should sell well at this price. L&S (May 2005)

Fresh and racy. Rich right-bank fruit but not heavy. 2014-2020 Rating: 15.5 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Mar 2014)

Red-ruby. Black cherry, mocha, iron, licorice and exotic spices on the nose. Juicy and bright, with a slight peppery quality lifting the middle palate. Not especially fleshy or sweet but spicy and aromatic. Finishes with dusty tannins and good verve. As always, this conveys a strong impression of soil character, although from the nose alone I'd be more likely to guess Pomerol than Saint-Emilion. Rating: 90 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (May 2007)

An elegant, pretty Quinault, the 2004 displays a dense ruby/purple color along with a big, rich nose of licorice, black raspberries, cherries, and spice. This blend of 71% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec possesses an excellent texture, beautiful elegance and complexity, and no hard edges. A seamlessly made, supple-textured, evolved, forward effort, it can be drunk now or cellared for 12-15 years. This is a very strong effort in a challenging vintage. Rating: 91 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, www.RobertParker.com (May 2005)

Château Quinault l'Enclos

A 19 hectare estate located in the Saint-Émilion appellation of Bordeaux. Although originating the the 17th century, the Château was not used in the production of wine until it was bought by négociant Baptiste Mons in 1930. Since then it has been brought along in leaps and bounds by Dr. Alain Raynaud until its sale in 2008 to Bernard Arnault and his associate Albert Frère, however Raynaud stayed on as a consultant at the property. The vines have a high average age of 60-70 years, and are planted on gravel, sand and clay terroir.
