DOM PÉRIGNON ROSÉ

2005 Brut Champagne Moët & Chandon

Grapes Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay
Colour Rosé
Origin France, Champagne
ABV 12.5%

Pink coral colour with russet highlights. Wild strawberry aromas are followed by peachy notes of summer. Tactile in the mouth, with benign, ripe phenolics. Forward and expressive, there is early pleasure to be had here paired with roast monkfish and Beaufort cheese. (Michael Edwards) Drinking range: 2017 - 2022 Rating: 91 www.decanter.com (Dec 2016)

Dom Pérignon is the daddy of all luxury cuvées, first made in 1921 and shipped to London in 1935. It was an instant success, thanks to Moët’s timing, giving solace to wine lovers as war loomed. The inimitable DP style of floral scents and creamy middle palate was born; it is still a magnet today for its extraordinarily high and consistent quality, the more remarkable considering the substantial volume of production. First produced in 1959, the DP Rosé is a smaller affair, drawn on a tighter repertoire of flavours involving a third step – the addition of aromatic Pinot Noir from the slopes of Hautvillers, Äy and Bouzy, where Moët have great vineyards. A wine of tremendous energy, cut and focus at this stage, the 2005 Dom Pérignon Rosé impresses for its delineation and crystalline purity. Interestingly, while the 2005 Blanc is quite supple and expressive today, the Rosé is very tight, something that probably bodes quite well for the future. In 2005, the Pinot Noir is quite high at around 55-60% of the blend. Needless to say, it is going be fascinating to see how the 2005 Rosé develops over the coming years and decades. Today, the future certainly looks very, very bright. Rating: 94+ Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Dec 2016)

Champagne Moët & Chandon

Claude Moët founded the famous Champagne House in 1743. Their reputation was secured by his grandson Jean-Rémy Moët who was friendly with and, thus, received the endorsement of Napoleon. Jean-Rémy handed the business on to his son Victor Moët and son-in-law Pierre-Gabriel Chandon de Briailles and Moët et Cie became Moët & Chandon. The first vintage of Dom Perignon was the 1921, released in 1936, and it was the first De-Luxe cuvée on the market. Quite dramatic post-War expansion turned Moët & Chandon into the drinks and luxury goods company LVMH.
