Big coffee-mocha style, lots of black fruit, tannic finish. The fruit is jolly and the acidity good, so it will sort itself out. Rating: 88 L&S (Apr 2007)

Full ruby-red. Inky blackberry, black cherry, licorice and minerals on the nose. Sweet and densely packed, with a lush texture but also good enlivening minerality to the blueberry and dark chocolate flavors. Seamless and vinous Saint-Emilion, finishing with very suave tannins and noteworthy length and energy. An outperformer in 2006. Rating: 90 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (May 2007)

A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, it is a surprisingly opulent, flamboyant, fleshy, soft crowd-pleaser displaying abundant amounts of smoked herbs, sweet black cherry and cassis fruit, licorice, espresso roast, chocolate, and toast. Full-bodied with superb concentration as well as a beautifully textured mouthfeel, this 2006 should drink well for 10-15+ years. Like all of the Neipperg estates, this wine’s capsule has a clever anti-fraud device, which I think will be increasingly employed by many French estates. Clos de l'Oratoire
Located on Saint-Émilion's north-east slope, the Clos de l'Oratoire estate dates back to the mid-19th century to the Beylot family, Libourne based négociants. In the 1969 Saint-Émilion reclassification, Clos de l'Oratoire was ranked Grand Cru Classé. The 10.32 hectares of vines grow on clay-limestone and Fronsac molasse on the upper part of the slope, and clay-sand on the lower part of the slope, a terroir which is enitrely suited to the Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grape blend. The average age of vines at Clos de l'Oratoire is 35 years, and grapes are all hand harvested into small crates to avoid bruising. Since 1991, the estate has been under the charge of Comte Stephan von Neipperg, who inherited part of the vineyard from his father Joseph-Hubert, Graf von Neipperg.

Crunchy and pretty, with peaches, dark chocolate, walnut and spices on the nose and palate. Medium body, firm and racy with a bright finish. The quality is always excellent, and it’s extremely well priced. Drink or hold.
