Although very 'non-Italian', Sportoletti's Bordeaux style blend offers lovely mid-term drinking, with marginally riper tannins and spicy fruit. Actually tremendously good value. L&S (Feb 2011)

The 2006 Villa Fidelia flows onto the palate with a rush of red berries, flowers, spices and new leather. The clarity and delineation is striking, but the wine loses a bit of persistence on the mid-palate. Overall, this is a somewhat mid-weight Villa Fidelia that is likely to offer its best drinking relatively early. Villa Fidelia is Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Sportoletti
Riccardo Cotarella's appointment as oenologist at the Sportoletti estate in Spello, the neighbouring town to Assisi, has taken the quality of winemaking at the estate into the international league. Cotarella’s ability to make excellent Merlot based wines is as evident in both the Assisi Rosso as in the ‘super-Umbrian’ Villa Fidelia Rosso. The twenty hectare estate is made up of a number of small vineyards high in the hills above the towns of Assisi and Spello.
