Produced from a mere 18 Hl/ha after sorting. A nose which is quite 'straight', recalls the excellent 2004 of this cuvée. A touch of coal-tar and woodsmoky depth, enough tannin to firm up the dried herb and juicy berry fruit. All silky and well-managed, can be drunk from now. L&S (May 2011)

Big and sweet and sinewy. Lots of polish. So different from the supermarket Châteauneuf offerings! Tingly despite the alcohol. Already quite round and resolved. Pretty good. 2011-2018 Rating: 16.5 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Nov 2011)
Ratcheting the heat-factor up a notch, the 2008 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Tradition, Domaine Giraud, brings young Rhône's typically muscle-bound spicy, juicy plum and raspberry fruit and peppery opulence. Anthony Rose, The Evening Standard (Nov 2011)
The deep ruby-colored 2008 Chateauneuf du Pape exhibits abundant fruit, garrigue, licorice, and spice characteristics, medium to full body, and surprising concentration for this vintage. Rating: 88-90 Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, www.RobertParker.com (May 2011)
Domaine Giraud
Owned by François and Marie Giraud the 19 hectare Domaine Giraud is now rated among the best producers in Châteauneuf du Pape. François is responsible for the vineyards and Marie for the vinification and together with Philippe Cambié, one of the Rhône's most exceptional consultant wine makers, they have come up with a string of excellent vintages. The 19 hectares are split between an 8 hectare plot in the 'Gallimardes' area in the south, which includes parcels of hundred-year old Grenache, and further sites in the Crau, the sandy soils near Château Rayas on the Pignan plateau, and the white rocky soils of the highest points of the appellation, and these too include vines over a hundred years old.
