Sort of Nuits and animal-like on first nose, but then supple, sweet and pure: really lovely. 'Powerful without being rich', says Thibault. Not really fat, but lots of spicy complexity. 'tres parfumé sans avoir une grosee masse', as he puts it. Very fine and long. L&S (Nov 2012)

Medium red. Complex if reticent aromas of redcurrant, minerals, smoked meat and pepper. Sweet on entry, then quite firm in the middle, showing hints of candied fruit. The chewy, firm but ripe tannins really clamp down on the finish today. A distinctly intellectual calcaire style of wine. Rating: 91-93 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar (Feb 2013)
A distinctly sauvage, even animale nose of intensely earthy and ripe red and blue pinot fruit that is laced with wet stone, humus and forest floor. The earthy character continues onto the broad-shouldered and impressively scaled flavors that brim with both dry extract and plenty of power before culminating in a remarkably complex, focused and notably persistent finish. The lack of the word 'domaine' in the name signals that this is a négociant wine from Thibault Liger-Belair. On the whole Thibault buys grapes having tended the vines with his own team, so that the wines are domaine wines in all but name.
