2011 Grechetto Colli Martani Arnaldo-Caprai

Grapes Grechetto
Colour White
Origin Italy, Umbria
Sub-district Colli Martani

Another fabulous vintage of Grechetto from Arnaldo Caprai. Fresh and mineral with lovely texture, the almost peach-like fruit is beautifully offset by a hint of bitter peach-stone flavour. L&S (Apr 2012)

This shows a wonderful intensity and richness with lemons, peaches and minerals on the nose and palate. Full body with layers of fruit and a long finish. A beautiful white all around. A gorgeous Grecante. Rating: 92 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Sept 2013)

During the Renaissance tradition, there were many wines defined as "Greci, Grecanti, Grechetti". The Grecante of Montefalco was among the celebrated wines of this variety and was historically given as a precious gift by farmers to princes and cardinals of the community. Arnldo Caprai's Grecante keeps up this traditional story. This wine is characterized by an intense straw colour. It is intensely fruity yet delicate with floral notes. It is soft and well-balanced. Grecante is an impressive aperitif wine, great with fish and white meat.Winemaker's notes (Feb 2013)

One of Umbria's big names - though more for its reds. This is 100% Grechetto and the nose of poached pear, spice and apple pie declares its quality. The palate has an attractively round, weighty feel with a crisp firmness, and a peppery kick on the back.Decanter Magazine (Jan 2013)

Arnaldo-Caprai

The Caprai winery and vineyards lie on the hillside below the Umbrian hilltop town of Montefalco. Founded in 1971 by Arnaldo-Caprai Caprai, and now in the hands of his son Marco, the estate has become the leading producer of Sagrantino wines in the region. Sagrantino shows no resemblance to any of Italy's other grape varieties, and is almost exclusive to the region of Montefalco - it is thick-skinned, small bunched and small-berried, but big in every other way: colour, tannins, acids, extracts, and sugars.
