2013 Blanc de Blancs Brut
|Origin||United Kingdom, England|
Pale straw with a greenish tinge. Very light, flirtatious nose. This tastes as though it has been deliberately styled to contrast with the Classic Cuvée that is a blend of different varieties. Quite marked, though not excessive, acidity. Really delicate texture. Tightrope balance. A ballerina of a wine with convincing persistence. Rather pure. Not trying to be champagne. Drinking range: 2019 - 2025 Rating: 17 Jancis Robinson OBE MW - www.JancisRobinson.com (Apr 2019)
*Case price discount: Mix any 12 bottles (or 9l equivalent) of wine or 6 bottles of Champagne, Spirits, Sweet Wine or Fortified to get the 'case price' for each bottle.
2013 vintage conditions: budburst occurred at the end of April, about two weeks later than average due to cool temperatures in March and April, and the cool temperatures continued through June. Flowering started in the second week of July, and a great fruit set was observed two weeks later, thanks to a warm and dry month. The second half of the season, from August onwards, was moderate and fine, enabling the fruit to ripen gradually. Harvest started on 8th October and finished on the 24th. A late burst of warmth that month allowed us to bring in nicely balanced grapes.Winemaker's notes(Mar 2019)
Like L&S in 2018 Nyetimber are celebrated an important 30th anniversary. In 1988 as Lea & Sandeman was founded, the vines were being planted here in West Sussex. Few vineyards in England are better placed to exploit the similarity between the soils of the South Downs and those of the Champagne region in France than Nyetimber in West Sussex. But it took a couple from Chicago - Stuart and Sandy Moss - to bring the dream to life when they bought Nyetimber Manor in 1986. Vineyards followed from 1988 onwards, and the first vintage released was the 1992.
Nyetimber is now owned by Eric Heerema who already owned a vineyard in West Sussex when he bought Nyetimber in 2006 and had already identified more land for planting. All were amalgamated into Nyetimber which, now, comprises some 350 acres, all planted to Chardonnay and the Pinots Noir and Meunier, making it at the time the biggest vineyard in England.
